Left on Jul 18, 2020 for a stay in Jul 2020   Guest Rating 5/5

We had an absolutely wonderful holiday at Maigold Cottage. Escaping from London as soon as Boris said we were allowed, we couldn’t have stayed in a nicer place. The cottage is positioned at in a wonderfully quiet location surrounded by farmland and with great views. There are great walks and bike rides you can go on from the front door (including down onto the Monsal Trail), and we didn’t drive for more than 40 minutes to get to other great walks and rides, including the busier areas like Edale and Castleton. The cottage is very comfortable and well laid out and the central heating is seriously powerful (very helpful if the weather turns cold and wet!). We were very sad to leave and very much hope to return next year.

“Perfect New Year break!”   Guest Rating 5/5

I stayed over new year with my partner and his family and had the best of times. The house is perfect for the winter, with stunning views no matter what the weather. There was plenty of space for dining and socialising, as well as privacy. I particularly loved the old features like the sewing machine and wooden beams. Plenty of things to do in the local area and lots of info provided by the owners. Would definitely recommend for a peaceful family break in the countryside!

“Great for a family get together” Guest Rating 5/5

The location in the Peak District was ideal for our Christmas family get together. We booked both Albertine and the adjacent Maigold to accommodate the whole family. The cottage was very well equipped and had sufficient room for all 11 of us to eat in the large dining kitchen (with an extra chair, and the small table from Maigold to serve from). The large living room was more than adequate for us all to be together and the children have room to play. Upstairs the three bedrooms were served by a bathroom and shower room, both of which were accessible from the two double bedrooms but also from the large landing so they could be used without going through the bedrooms. Another shower room was located downstairs along with the fourth bedroom. The area was ideal for walking with the towns of Bakewell and Buxton a short drive away. The little touches of Christmas chocolates, wine and biscuits made our stay extra special.

“Excellent Stay, Great Cottage” Guest Rating  5/5

Maigold is a beautiful cottage, much larger than expected with an especially generous living room. Well equipped and with lovely views and walks from the door. Kind and helpful hosts. Overall a great place to stay and I look forward to returning soon.

“Comfortable home from home set in beautiful countryside”   Guest Rating 5/5

Julie couldn’t have been more helpful from the moment we arranged the booking till the time to leave . The barns were extremely comfortable for a family party whose ages ranged from 8 weeks old to 91 years old. It was warm and spacious. The kitchens were both extremely well equipped; indeed we prepared a full Sunday lunch for all 12 of us! It was also so well equipped that we could make and present a birthday cake too. The surrounding area had plenty of walks, runs, historic homes and thriving towns to keep us all happy. Ten out of ten from us!

“Excellent accommodation and location for exploring the Peak District”   Guest Rating 5/5

We stayed here with our extended family, totaling 4 children ranging from 2-5 years old and 5 adults. Right from the get go, the friendly arrival (excellent hosts), amazing views and first glimpse of the barn, we were impressed. The children loved the space and found plenty of areas to play in. They also enjoyed walking up the lane to see the cows at the top farm. This character barn is very well equipped in the kitchen and there is plenty of space around the big table for eating together. We appreciated having towels provided and the shared laundry facilities too. The rooms have comfortable beds and excellent black out curtains, handy for the kids! The living room has lovely views with plenty of seating. If you get the chance, you can sit on the patio and hear the owls at dusk. The location is good for trips to Bakewell, Buxton, Chatsworth House (a must!), Eyam, Matlock and Crich Tramway. Overall, we were very happy with our stay and would choose Abertine Barn again.

“Beautiful house in stunning location”   Guest Rating  5/5

We have just returned from a great, 3 generations family holiday in this lovely house. Albertine is a large, light barn conversion, which is very well equipped for a family holiday[ cot, high chair, games, stair gate etc]. We were particularly happy with the well equipped kitchen, with an impressive array of kitchen equipment. There was plenty of outside space for an energetic toddler! Brian and Julie are lovely hosts who were attentive without being intrusive. We appreciated their knowledge of the area. The house is off the beaten track, but great walks are accessible from the door, and Bakewell, Buxton and Chatsworth are all within easy reach. We would happily visit again.

“Stunning views and great accommodation”    Guest Rating 5/5

We have been returning to Middle Farm Cottages and Albertine for a number of years now. For our family there is no better place to holiday. The standard of the accommodation is very high, it is well maintained and very clean. The owners Brian and Julie are the perfect hosts. This year we were celebrating my sister’s 50th birthday and the barn is perfect for a big family get together. The location is great for Bakewell, Buxton and Chatsworth House plus plenty of walks direct from the cottages. A great holiday for all ages.

“Beautifully peaceful setting”    Guest Rating    5/5

Maigold cottage is a lovely property, situated high on the hill alongside several other cottages. It is in a beautifully peaceful setting without feeling isolated. A visitor can imagine being in a little farming community. The interior of the property has been kept at a very high standard with comfortable furnishings and excellent beds.

Our family group of 7 plus a Labrador stayed in Albertine Barn for a long weekend. The cottage was just what we were hoping for. “Great people, Great place, Great location, Good value for money”       Guest Rating     5/5

We had a lovely stay in Maigold Cottage with our family, including baby and dog. The cottage is beautifully furnished and comfortable, and the living room is much larger than the pictures suggest – a really welcome surprise for when the whole family is together. We know the area well already so had no concerns on location, there’s great walks, climbing and other activities in the area and Bakewell and Buxton are both a short drive away. We had a lovely stay and would definitely come again.

“A Wonderful Stay”    Guest Rating    5/5

Thank you for a really wonderful stay at Maigold Cottage, we really enjoyed our holiday and didn’t want to leave!  The cottage is much bigger than we had thought from the pictures and was really warm and comfortable. We stayed with our toddler and Maigold was very handy because it was all on one level, so no stairs to worry about, and we were able to use the highchair and travel cot which were in the cottage. Our dog also had a wonderful time with the cosy fire in the living room and lots of beautiful walks from the cottage and also a short car drive away. There are plenty of pushchair friendly and dog friendly walks within the local area and we walked along part of the Monsal trail and Tissington trail easily with our pushchair. Julie and Brian live next to Maigold and were available to welcome us to the property and also offer advice when required; we very much appreciated Brian providing us with a map and advice on walks available from the cottage. We hope to return to stay at Maigold soon, and would recommend Middle Farm Holiday Cottages to others who are seeking a quiet, relaxing holiday in the Peak District

“Christmas 2016”    Guest Rating    5/5

We stayed at Maigold Cottage over Christmas 2016. The cottage is much larger than it looks in the photographs on the owners website. It is very well equipped and a very comfortable place to stay in, a good rural location between Buxton and Bakewell. The owners, Brian & Julie, were very helpful and friendly during our stay and quickly sorted a slight issue with the wifi connection upon arrival and provided us with top ups of logs for the logburner. All in all, we would highly recommend Maigold Cottage as a place to stay for relaxing or taking advantage ( as we did ) of the many great walks in the surrounding area.

“Lovely stay in Albertine Barn” Guest Rating 5/5

We have stayed at Albertine Barn six times over the past seven years. We keep returning because we love the beautiful, tranquil setting, with stunning views of the Derbyshire countryside, and the standard of the accommodation is excellent. In our opinion there is nowhere better to stay in the Peak District.
